Hello, dear reader, I hope you’re having a good day. This article on Knights of Pen and Paper 2 has tips and tricks as well as a light review on the game since I have not beaten it. I hope to post a video of Knights of Pen and Paper 2 gameplay on the Lunar Nebula LLC Gaming YouTube channel in the future. I’m not being paid to write this blog, and it contains information based on my opinions from playing Knights of Pen and Paper 2. Knights of Pen and Paper 2 is rated 12+ on the App Store for Infrequent/Mild: cartoon or fantasy violence, profanity or rude humor, alcohol, tobacco, or drug use or references, and sexual content and nudity. It’s been pretty clean with the most adult things being Game of Thrones references and drugged slaves who seem to be references to the Toadstools in Mario games. There are also cartoonish Zombies.
Light Review: Knights of Pen and Paper 2 has a small tutorial and then leaves you to figure out how items, conditions, and the world work. The fangs at the top left corner of the game can help you significantly if you spend time looking through the Bestiary. There is some rude humor in Knights of Pen and Paper 2 and a lot of nerdy references. The game is all about creating a party of customized characters, finding sweet loot, and saving the world of Paperos. Life lesson: work is rewarded. Spending time to get levels and gold will make your job to defeat the Paper Knight easier.

- When starting, I suggest getting a healer and a damage dealer- The game isn’t too hard in the beginning. Still, this combo gives you a good balance. You can probably get away with any combination of characters and save up gold to invest in another character. The earlier you get more characters in your party, the better. Gold is what powers your progression through the game. Don’t worry as much about XP. Don’t do Investigation rolls until you have 5 characters in order to increase your chances to get good items without wasting money.
- Don’t buy too many items at the start- You will want some equipment, yet you’ll find it saves time and money to simply push your limits and wait for good loot to drop from battles and quests. Frankly, skills will deal the most damage and normal attacks are usually just to clean up or save Energy. Doing side quests in towns is a great way to gain levels, loot, and gold. As you level up it appears you lose access to some lower level side quests. Do the side quests when possible and you can avoid level grinding.
- Hero suggestions- Heroes are made by choosing a Player, Race, and Class. Create one of your first heroes as the Rich Kid player. No item in the game compares to the 10% gold bonus even at level 15! Gold is how you will buy your future heroes, consumables, and super good trinkets. Once you use a Player archetype, you won’t be able to use that Player when creating a new character. So you can’t have 5 Rich Kids on your team. Note each aspect of your character will impact their attributes. You can min-max and I would suggest doing so. An example would be to make a character with as much Mind attribute as you can tack on. This will help with Investigation rolls and their Energy to cast skills. The elven race trait is wonderful for any class you want a specific skill leveled (due to increasing Energy cost for high-level skills) and the same goes for humans. If you ever feel ripped off by your initial picks, you can start a new save file and the gold pile carries over to every file. An example hero would be a Lab Rat Human Mage. This Mage has very low health and high Energy with a Mind attribute of 9. Another example is the Rich Kid Elven Thief or Ranger which would max the Senses attribute.
- Ability Suggestions- Most classes have one incredible ability you want to focus on leveling and exclusively using in order to maximize your damage output. It’s harder to do this on the Paladin and Cleric classes because you want them to heal your characters and be viable damage dealers or tanks. I found focusing the Paladin on healing is amazing because it can heal two characters. The Cleric actually has the highest potential single target damage skill in the game from your initial roster. Divine Judgement is capable of completely fizzling out, but it makes up for it. Note the Game Room feature in the main menu will also affect multiple save files and you can use your collective gold to unlock a perk which makes some skills able to affect all enemies instead of only enemies adjacent to your target. I suggest unlocking the Go Set if you have a Mage and a Thief in your party. They can combo Fireball and Barrage of Knives very effectively.
- You can unlock Magazine content by playing the game-This is true for the Origami continent content at least. You can unlock the Ninja class by fighting a hidden Ninja in the Nearby Cave dungeon. The Origami campaign can be unlocked through completing quests. I don’t know if all Magazine content can be unlocked by playing rather than spending gold. Gold will become much easier to get as you progress through the game. I regularly receive 2000 gold from completing quests at level 15.
