Hello, dear reader, I hope you’re doing well. I’ve been researching e-commerce websites and opportunities for Lunar Nebula LLC’s future. Weebly can handle online sales. As can eBay, Shopify, and many more services. My current favorite is Amazon because it already covers a broad category of products, and so many people use it. It seems like a universal percentage fee exists on all the various sites I’ve looked through for selling items. Basically, you get charged a certain amount of the item’s price per sale, need to calculate shipping into your prices, and you may need to change how you accept online payments. It depends on what terms of service you agree to, and what kind of service plan you buy. I will be doing further research in the future, yet, for now, Amazon seems like the best choice to sell a variety of merchandise through. They charge a dollar per item if you do not join their $40 per month Amazon professional seller plan. For more information you can check out this link: https://services.amazon.com/selling/pricing.htm/ref=asus_soa_snav_p. Books, on the other hand, have lots of publishing venues.
Selling through Amazon would give me a chance to familiarize myself with their staff and policies. This would help with publishing e-books of comics and novels in the future through KDP. Here is a link to KDP, a.k.a. Kindle Direct Publishing, https://kdp.amazon.com/how-to-publish-comics-graphic-novels?ref_=GS. Kindle Direct Publishing is a huge advantage for self-publishing books to a large audience. The problem then being getting the attention of those readers. There is a disadvantage. If you join KDP Select, you remove your right to sell to any other service. It’s further described on their page https://kdp.amazon.com/select and at https://kdp.amazon.com/help?topicId=A6KILDRNSCOBA. I need to find out if I could still post chapters on the Lunar Nebula site to promote books, or if joining KDP Select prevents it. Remember, Amazon isn’t the only option. There are other online self-publishing opportunities with Nook, Kobo, Draft2Digital and Smashwords. All of them have pros and cons.
I’m not going to lie. I’m just scratching the surface of the self-publishing world. What I found implies that self-publishing options are being made all the time. I believe the two best resources for self-publishing are Draft2Digtal and KDP. If you want a simpler publishing system for a novel you should check out Draft2Digital. It's free to use, you don't need to make artwork for your book, and they can distribute to multiple sellers (except Kindle) using your normal word document. More information on Draft2Digital can be found at https://www.draft2digital.com/steps/. KDP probably has the best market.
Please let me know if you have any comments or questions. I’m going to keep doing research on self-publishing. Hopefully I’ll have another article for you soon. In the meantime another online resource I found for publishing help is at https://janefriedman.com/how-to-publish-an-ebook/. I haven’t had a chance to look through it yet. It looks comprehensive. I hope this helps someone's journey to becoming an author. Have a good day, dear reader!
