Hello, dear reader, I hope you’re having a good day. I’m not being paid to write this blog, and it contains information based on my opinions from playing Bloons TD 6 on iOS. I’ve played for almost a week now and feel comfortable with the game. You can check out my YouTube video on Bloons TD 6 at Lunar Nebula LLC Gaming (I recommend starting here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmiVtGWJQOI) to see the gameplay in action. Bloons TD 6 is a pay-to-play tower defense game. It costs $4.99 and includes in-app payments to quickly unlock content or obtain powers to make maps easier. Ninja Kiwi is the studio behind the game franchise. Ninja Kiwi added some more bells and whistles to Bloons TD 6. Taking a page from Kingdom Rush, there are now Monkey Knowledge perks which affect towers and are always active. No more one tower buff from a chosen headquarters. I like this because it makes it easier to play any tower rather than focus on a single tower strategy. You really don’t need to buy any content. Simply playing the game for a time will unlock everything and give you Monkey Dollars for Powers. You don’t need an internet connection to play Bloons TD 6.
Bloons TD 6 is rated 9+ on the App Store for Infrequent/Mild Cartoon or Fantasy Violence. The rating is probably too high. The only reasons I can think of it being 9+ are the cannons, sniper rifles, and other cartoony weapons based on real weapons or war machines. They only shoot darts at balloons, yet there are explosion sound effects and perhaps even a cartoon gun is too much for someone with traumatic memories. It’s the most fun game I’ve played which I believe all ages can enjoy. Who doesn’t want to watch monkeys pop balloons?
Review:
Bloons TD 6 plays very similarly to number 5. It has more polish, heroes, and tower upgrades are earned through popping bloons. You can focus on leveling up your favorite towers or just have fun playing medium maps and slowly unlocking everything. The game is a tower defense joy. You do need to be careful not to leave the fast-forward button on once you pass round 38! Bloons TD 6 has clean animations, with a few skips on my iPad Air 2, and the sound effects will keep your ears satisfied your monkeys are popping bad bloons. Bloons TD 6 doesn’t change the formula, yet its emphasis on unlocking towers and monkey knowledge does offer a pleasing reward for every level you earn. Plus, Ninja Kiwi made a third upgrade track for each tower! The user interface could be better for placing Powers down, I’m constantly pulling up my menu bar from the iPad’s bottom edge, and I still love the game. I recommend playing Bloons TD 6 if you are ready for a new tower defense game or love the genre. It has updated graphics and a Ninja Kiwi sounds willing to update the game for the foreseeable future with more content!
Time: Bloons TD 6 isn’t energy-based, however, you do need to unlock maps and towers to achieve the greatest results. There is no timer other than the number of rounds to ‘complete’ a map. You can then choose to Free Play the map indefinitely. The game does remember the last map you played and what round you were on if you need to leave the app.
Pros and Cons: Bloons TD 6 is fast to teach you the basics with a tutorial. It leaves the details up to you to learn and use. The only con I can think of for Bloons TD 6 is the inability to instantly use the best tower upgrades in the game for veterans. It’s not a problem for me. I love the feeling of progression and unlocking new capabilities as long as I enjoy the gameplay. Please note upgrades are incredibly important in Bloons. Spamming dart towers will not lead to victory. You must get upgrades to destroy lead bloons, see camo bloons, and throw darts faster or you’ll soon lose all heart. More importantly Bloons TD 6 is a thoughtful game you can play with your kids and teach them about strategy and planning at the same time. Also, finance. Because banana farms are victory (as long as you buy them at a good time)!
Overall Impression: Bloons TD 6 is an excellent addition to the series. Progression is fast, gameplay is gorgeous, and seriously why aren’t you playing this game yet? Stop reading this article and buy it if you have the money or play the previous versions for free online. If you love tower defense games without blood, gore, and humans, then Bloons TD 6 is in the App Store waiting for you! If you don’t, then maybe Bloons TD 6 isn’t for you.

Tips:
- Buy Heroes first if possible – Heroes Quincy, Gwendolin, Striker Jones, and Obyn Greenfoot gain power over time as bloons are popped. The faster you can put them on the, map the better they will be. Don’t worry if you need to wait. You can always pay to level them up. I recommend Quincy or Obyn the most for less micromanagement in the early game. Obyn’s thorns can puncture stealth balloons even if Obyn can’t see them. Quincy’s sharp monkey eyes will pick up camo bloons by his third level.
- Open your free loot chest daily – Free loot chests take 24 hours to refresh. You can get monkey dollars, free towers, or free powers. All of these will be necessary the first time you tackle a Hard Map. I spent two cash drops on my first Hard Map Daily Mission. Honestly, it may not have been worth the resources. I thought it was a fun challenge though.
- Set your towers to attack Strong, First, Close, and Last bloons to change the tide of war – I’ve found the glue gunner to be most effective hitting the last or closest bloons. If she targets the first bloon, she could waste a second shot on the same bloon before the next unglued bloon passes. Close seems to be best because the glued bloons will keep moving and a separate bloon will more closely approach your tower. You want Moab Maulers to target Strong bloons to ensure they don’t waste their damage on non-Moab bloons. Having all your towers focused on First is a recipe for disaster.
