Hello, dear reader, I hope you’re having a good day. I’m not being paid to write this blog, and it contains information based on my opinions from playing Super Awesome Quest on iOS. I’ve played about an hour and feel comfortable with the game. You can check out my YouTube video on Super Awesome Quest at Lunar Nebula LLC Gaming if you want to see the gameplay in action. Super Awesome Quest is a free-to-play RPG (role-playing game) with mechanics based on Minesweeper. It’s a lot like a matching game with more freedom of choice. The idea is to level up, collect new equipment, and go on a Super Awesome Quest. The game features in-app purchases to speed up loot gathering. You don’t need an internet connection to play it though you can choose to watch ads for resources.
Super Awesome Quest is rated 12+ on the App Store for Infrequent/Mild Alcohol, Tobacco, or Drug Use or References, Infrequent/Mild Profanity or Crude Humor, Frequent/Intense Cartoon or Fantasy Violence, and Infrequent/Mild Mature/Suggestive Themes. The rating doesn’t seem warranted based on the several hours I’ve played the game. There’s some lighthearted humor in the beginning and a few cut-scenes in-game. The cartoon violence is very limited. I’d say it’s less frightening than Power Rangers or Trollhunters. It is definitely cartoony. There are sound effects, minor explosion effects, and perhaps some redness for a battle effect. It really doesn’t seem like blood to me. Once again, you can see the video to get your own opinion on the violence in game. I’d say if you and your kids can handle cartoon skeletons, Halloween holidays, Power Rangers or Trollhunters, those are just as, if not more, frightening.
Review:
Remember the days on Armorgames.com or when surfing the net you’d find some fun free Flash game? Super Awesome Quest is a blast from the past. It looks like a well-made flash game. It includes an impressive Minesweeping style of gameplay which can keep you entertained as you strive for the next epic loot drop. No lousy internet will cause a bad game on single player. You won’t be able to watch ads to revive without internet though so internet does have perks! Super Awesome Quest has simple animation, and the sound effects can keep your ears tingling with satisfaction as the clinking of cleared tiles soon translates into action! The audio works well with the gameplay, and the sound of my Paladin’s hammer strikes stirs the warrior within. At least a tiny bit. The music is just background music without too much emphasis. It kind of slips into your subconscious. Super Awesome Quest knows what it is and it delivers on fast-paced, minesweeping, RPG action. The game includes various mechanics like trapped tiles, combo tiles, and giving your equipment tile properties. Alongside the main draw of the mechanics, Super Awesome Quest manages to include a nominal story. The missions are re-playable and continue to increase in difficulty. They are separated into 5 difficulty levels each with bronze, silver and gold tiers. The game is designed to be a grind. I recommend playing it when you are hungry for some fun minesweeping strategy. You can choose to play as much as you want or as little without penalty.
Time: Super Awesome Quest isn’t energy-based, and you can play as much as you want. The only timer for missions (in my experience) is your health.
Pros and Cons: Super Awesome Quest is fast to teach you the basics with a very short tutorial and simple gameplay. The strategy and tension of picking your next tile are what make the game fun and replayable. If you want a fast-paced, low-risk Minesweeping game, then Super Awesome Quest scratches the itch. The main con is the grind for gear and experience. It’ll take time to build up your hero, unlock equipment, and reach for greater rewards.
Overall Impression: If you love Dice Mage, Fusion Heroes or other free games focused on a single fun idea or game mechanic, then Super Awesome Quest is in the App Store waiting for you! If you don’t enjoy free-to-play games, Minesweeper, RPGs, or strategy, then Super Awesome Quest may not be for you.

Tips:
- When in doubt, reveal the most tiles possible – Super Awesome Quest’s combats can require a bit of luck at times. Revealing as many tiles as possible gives you more choices at the expense of larger combos. I recommend consistent damage in the early game and revealing at least two tiles while selecting an ability. If you’re playing Paladin, pick up the wooden hammer first! Unless there’s a silver hammer in between two wooden hammers which could lead to two combos of the wooden hammer because it’s a net gain, right? Strategy.
- Follow the story as far as you can before replaying battles– At level 7 (mission 7) you’ll unlock the Valkyrie! She can attack all enemies at once and deals more damage than the Paladin with her spear attacks. She’ll be the same level as the Paladin regardless of when you unlock her. Without the sweet gear upgrades or survivability of the Paladin. Depending on which hero is doing the level dictates the gear you get. You won’t get Val’s swag without Val working for it. Unlocking the other starter hero earlier gives you a chance to figure out which play style you like better. I personally like how the Paladin survives enough to build massive combos. Still, building Val’s attack stat seems like a great plan.
- Always check your equipment when first logging in or leveling up – The equipment in this game builds up to increase your survivability and options in battle. Make sure you have the good stuff on. I may or may not reveal the efficacy of this wisdom in the video on YouTube.
