Hello, dear reader, I hope you’re having a good day. I’m not being paid to write this blog, and it contains information based on my opinions from playing Punch Punch Kick Punch (PPKP) on iOS. I’m sick so this is going to be short. Punch Punch Kick Punch is a free-to-play turn-based action RPG (role-playing game) where you’ll choose to kick or punch your foes. Your reflexes are necessary to react to your foes’ attacks. A successful counter results in your foes lying before you. A minor success will block damage. It features turn-based combat, no tutorial, and a variety of unlockables. Punch Punch Kick Punch’s simple mechanics won’t take too much time to learn, as long as you’re willing to dive in with no real direction. Eventually you’ll click something new and learn what a new building does or buy a new upgrade to use in combat. The game’s presentation makes every fight feel like a learning experience or a chance to try something new. The game can get repetitive when you’re in between earning an upgrade. You can buy jewels as in-app purchases to speed up the game. There are no ads. My frame rate has dropped when I’m throwing out attacks with rapid button presses. There is an energy system time limit in the game represented by gas cans for the taxi you take into combat.
Punch Punch Kick Punch is rated 12+ for Infrequent/Mild Realistic Violence and Infrequent/Mild Cartoon/Fantasy Violence. An example of the violence expected is a retro pixel art game featuring martial arts. I think the game could easily be rated 9+. Super Nintendo games like Turtles in Time or Twin Dragons would be good examples except PPKP is even less realistic. There isn’t any blood in Punch Punch Kick Punch. It has no language. No one says anything. Speech bubbles show images you’ll have to decipher the meaning behind.
Review:
Punch Punch Kick Punch lives up to its name. Prepare for fast fights and hone your reflexes to progress to the end of PPKP. Hopefully you’ll learn there’s some form of story hidden in there. The music and sound effects are delightful garnishes to this feast of martial arts mayhem.
Time: Punch Punch Kick Punch is energy-based following the free-to-play model. Punch Punch Kick Punch is generally quick to play, but you can spend longer amounts of time playing as your hero levels up and you face growing waves of enemies.
Pros and Cons: Punch Punch Kick Punch has a decent leveling progression and a unique way to present itself. The mystery of the game will keep you looking for the next surprise! The combat will keep you focused and interested. The gameplay is well done and approachable.
Overall Impression: If you love turn-based button mashing brawlers (can’t think of any others off the top of my head), old arcade games, a unique presentation in free games, leveling up and increasing your power; then Punch Punch Kick Punch is in the App Store waiting for you! If you don’t enjoy free-to-play games, being patient for unlocking things, energy systems which limit your play time, or don’t like the lack of explanations of any kind; then Punch Punch Kick Punch may not be for you.

Tips:
- Eat after every fight – Punch Punch Kick Punch’s main hero gains stats based on eating to satiation. Every fight will increase his appetite again.
- Enemies will be weak to punches or kicks – There will eventually be unlockable glasses which give more detailed info on your foes. Just try a kick and a punch to see which does more damage to your enemy. Then spam it. Eventually you’ll unlock combos which will be better than straight kicks and punches. Until then spam the best choice!
- Timing is everything – Your enemies’ eyes will flash yellow or blue to forecast attacks. Press the proper button to block for decreased damage. Press it right as their sprite reaches you, and you’ll counterattack!
Extra tips: Go to the left screen for game options like sound off.
