Hello, dear reader, I hope you’re having a good day. I’m not being paid to write this blog, and it contains information based on my opinions from playing Dice Mage 2 on iOS. Dice Mage 2 is rated 9+ on the App Store for Infrequent/Mild Cartoon or Fantasy Violence. The game has pixel art graphics, a variety of pixelated fiends to fry, and references to gambling and vampirism. The main issue for parents is to determine if In-App payments are on because there are many ways to spend real money for diamonds in the game. The nice side effect is you can teach your children about the dangers of gambling (and blood-sucking in-app payments) by talking through Dice Mage 2’s mechanics. Joking aside, the game doesn’t force you to purchase anything and is as fair as random chance can be.
Review:
Dice Mage 2 is a free-to-play mobile RPG (role-playing game) available on iOS and Android with some rogue-like elements. It doesn’t require an internet connection so you can play to your heart’s content. The game has in-app purchases which allow you to re-roll for gear and buy various items in the game. As you progress you’ll find better equipment and constantly improve your mage’s stats. Dying leads your mage back to the first level in a world, but you keep every item you’ve collected. Goodbye sweet, sweet attack and HP upgrades! There is minimal story in the game. Mild humor is thrown in with the dice. Dice Mage 2 will encourage you to spend countless hours progressing your character and while away boredom. Even if you don’t spend a dime.
Time: Dice Mage 2 takes as much time as you want it to. Unless you want to beat the game. Then it takes as much time as the dice allow. I’ve played the game around six hours or more (that I remember) and have now reached world 3 due to my conservative strategy and saving gems. You can choose to simply engage in one battle, close the app, and then continue from the saved point. The game auto-saves so no need to worry about losing progress. Just worry about the dice. I believe the game would take well over twenty hours to complete since I’ve spent around four hours progressing in-game to reach the second world and continuing to beef up my character.
Pros and Cons: The music is fun, upbeat and keeps you rolling dice for days. The story is short. Don’t play Dice Mage 2 if you want to partake in an epic saga. The developers deliver an incredibly stream-lined combat experience with lots of tactical number crunching to think through. Every decision you make hangs on the edge of a knife. A six sided knife. Dice Mage 2 won’t bore you with its mechanics! Plenty of spell choices to deck out your character with can change the outcome of battle. There is no PVP or multiplayer gameplay in Dice Mage 2. This can be a pro or a con depending on your preference. Also note when you exit out of the app it won’t save your progress beyond which world you’re in. For example, exiting out of a battle and turning off the app will prevent you from reconnecting to the same battle. Quitting from the pause menu has the same effect. It will also land you on level 1 of your current world.
Overall Impression: If you love RPGs (or rogue-like games) and want a free wireless game to play and pass time with, you’ll enjoy Dice Mage 2. If you hate free-to-play games or want a multiplayer experience, then Dice Mage 2 isn’t for you.

Tips:
- When starting the game, keep every first item you win from rolling treasure chests and sell for gems - While your enemies are weak it’s a good time to steadily gain better items, and wait for shops to spend your gems in for something you know you need! It’s very difficult to roll for good items and it’s far easier to find one in a shop.
- Your super has many uses and is more useful than it first appears- Dice Mage 2’s super attack will double your damage and negate any rolls made. You can activate it any time before combat. This is very helpful. When you have a possibility of out-rolling an enemy, you can roll one die see the outcome and can activate your super if the odds aren’t in your favor to upend the situation. You can also use the super to draw new dice.
- Your super will not stay charged when crossing to a new level, but will remain charged within one– There’s no point saving a super for after a boss fight. Within a level, however, you may want to pick fights until your super is charged up for a boss fight.
- Spells work before attack damage is calculated- For example, you have 3 hp left and your opponent has 12 hp. Your fireball spell deals half your attack damage (rounded down) which is 100. Even if you lose the roll-off, your fireball spell will attack first and deal 50 damage to your opponent winning you the match! Quick tip on spells, I prefer vampire over heal because it heals and deals damage. Likewise blizzard is better than roll-up due to dealing damage and giving your foe -1. The less time you spend in combat the less chance there is to take damage!
- Explore the map to find hidden gems and treasures- Exploring the map will let you gain a few freebie gems and treasure chests, and valuable stat boosts from defeating monsters. Fight skeletons first since they’re the weakest enemies. Go to shops last since they can heal you before boss battles.
- Rules of thumb- When in doubt on what die to use divide the die’s size in half. In general, rolling two d6 will most likely get you a 6 total (3+3 or 4+2), two d10 a 10, and so on. So if your opponent has a total of 11, you’ll probably want at least a d10 to roll. A d20 is very likely to match an 11. If you only have d6’s, it’s probably time to pull out a super! Use your weakest dice whenever possible so you can draw better ones to replace them. If you’re going to lose a roll, throw out your weakest dice. Higher quality items sell for more gems regardless of level. Some more common items can be higher level and give you better stats so pay attention to your items! Leaving a shop will remove it from the map.
- You don’t always start at the very beginning when you die- You can choose to view an ad the first time you die every world in order to continue a world, or pay gems. Alternatively, making it to the next world (from 2-4 to 3-1) should restart you at 3-1 when you die on 3-1.
